Investigate, examine, and reflect on your own practice as an educator by immersing yourself in the Colombian education system through a series of school visits, workshops with local teachers, and forums with local and national education leaders working to change their country's classrooms and schools for the better.

The accommodation is a modern and central hotel in a safe and central area of Medellin. Workshops will be held at the YMCA of Medellin, walking distance from the accommodation.

Program

Sunday, July 7th
• You will be picked up from the local airport by private vehicle, and delivered to your accommodation.
• Welcome Dinner: The group will be taken out to a kick-off dinner accompanied by VWI staff.

Monday, July 8th
• Orientation: We will discuss the agenda, participate in team building activities, and receive a crash course on local
language and culture.
• Group lunch: The group will dine at a local restaurant renowned for their Colombian cuisine.
• Tour of the Historic City Center: A tour led by a local guide, in which you will visit some of the Medellin's most well-known
sites, while learning about the religious and political history of the city, as well as social issues that affect the education
system.
• School Visit: Classroom observations and meetings with teachers and students, to gain a better understanding of local
pedagogy and teaching practices.
• Reflection and discussion: The group will meet to reflect and an engage in a discussion on the day's activities

Participants will be transferred to their accommodation to have dinner on their own, and rest for the following day.

Tuesday, July 9th
• School Visits: Classroom observations and meetings with teachers and students to gain a better understanding of
local pedagogy and teaching practices.
• Lunch with local education leaders: We will dine with a few of the city's social and political leaders that will provide a
greater understanding of the issues taking place within the national educational system.
• Local Non-Profit Visit: We will take a trip to a historically underserved part of Medellin, and to visit a community
development non-profit organization. Speaking with the organization's leaders, and community members, we will work to
gain a better understanding of the complex challenges they face, as well as their incredible progress.
• Reflection and discussion: The group will meet to reflect and an engage in a discussion on the day's activities
• Cooking Lesson: A hands-on experience, team members will learn how to make popular dishes, and enjoy a family style dinner

Wednesday, July 10th
• Visit the Botanic Gardens, one of the city's many
museums, and wander around your local
neighborhood. Our local staff can provide
recommendations.

• Take a day trip: VWI will provide an optional day
trip.

Thursday, July 11th
• Free Time/Lunch on Your Own: See the city sights on your own or with the group.
• Workshop: You will meet with local educators to discuss observations made from your school visits, and have structured
time to exchange ideas related to classroom culture, curriculum, etc. Translators will be available.
• Reflection and discussion: The group will meet to reflect and an engage in a discussion on the day's activities
• Closing Dinner: We will have our last celebratory meal together!
Days 5-6

Friday, July 12th
• Departures: The group will be transported by private car to the airport.
